News

Fresche Solutions secures $78.12 Million to help manage legacy applications

Fresche Solutions, “which provides solutions to help companies manage and modernize legacy IBM applications, has raised $78.12 million ($60 million USD) of debt financing.”  This is again a sign of how robust the IBM i platform is.

IBM i’s future is bright: A recap from POWERUp18

Here is an article that does a nice job of recapping the POWERUp18 conference in San Antonio this past month. But more importantly, it tells a story about the future of the platform.  There is a transition taking place.

During this transition, IT professionals will shift focus beyond automating human tasks to extracting knowledge and insight from vast amounts of data

Exciting times lie ahead.

Career

IT Skills needed to compete in the new economy

“Technology is changing at an increasing rate and a four-year degree may not give students the skills they need to remain competitive until retirement. Students today must become lifelong learners.”  This holds true for those who work on the IBM i platform.  RPG Developers and the like need to take ownership over their career and reinvest in themselves by staying up to speed on current trends in the market.

IT is one of the fastest growing industries in America

Here are the 13 best IT jobs in the future.  All of which apply to the IBM i platform. “Skills in cybersecurity, cloud, data analytics, Internet of Things, and converged infrastructure are the highest-value”.

Leadership

The secrets of successful work cultures

The Culture Code, the secrets of highly successful people. This book, written by Daniel Colye, discusses how to create a culture that uses vulnerability to foster growth. The role of vulnerability is one of the most important elements in creating a successful organization. Listen to this 20-minute podcast and it will give you a whole new perspective of how great organizations are built.

The New Playbook for Putting People First

The way most companies attract talent was designed for a different time. A time when work was predictable. That is not the case anymore. Technology is changing far more than the way we work. A new hiring strategy needs to be put in place to be successful in the future.

Security

A Developers Guide to GDPR

Here is part one of a three part series on how to develop GDPR complaint applications. It is critical that organizations understand how GDPR impacts you and your organization.

Common security challenges on the Mainframe and IBM i platforms

“Security on the mainframe and IBM i platform (and all of IT) is at the forefront of CIO/CTO minds today. ” This article gives a good overview of the challenges the IBM i platform will need to address going forward.

Bridging the Talent Gap in Cybersecurity

The IBM i market is not the only segment of IT that is talking about a talent gap. Cybersecurity is facing the same issue. This article touches on some options of how to attract talent. “There’s no one surefire way of fixing the problem, which endangers everyone’s security. There are, however, several options we should try.”

Trends

Effective Data Management is Essential for User Experience

As the IBM i platform and the professionals who support it venture into the future, data management and user experience will become increasingly more important. “Delivering an excellent user experience is essential to attracting and retaining customers. And although data management may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about optimizing user experience, maybe it should be.”

What you should know about Industry 4.0

We have written about Industry 4.0 in previous newsletters. In summary, it is “the continuation of bringing digital technology into the workspace, especially in the manufacturing industry, and is something that is actively taking shape in communities around the country.”
