IBMs Elite Data Science Team is #1 in AI Global Market Share

IBM announced today the momentum and growth for its vaunted Data Science Elite Team, which has helped propel IBM to number one in the global AI market share by revenue.

No Big Players in AI except Us says IBM Watson Executive

Virtual Assistant is a red hot area of AI.  “IBM says it has emerged as the only serious provider of this technology for the enterprise.”

IBM Watson is often misunderstood.

Watson is three things:

  1. A set of tools for companies that want to build their own AI.  Note: Much of what people are building AI with is Python.
  2. It is a set of applications that people can buy.  Basically pre-built applications for specifical functional areas or tasks.
  3. It’s also embedded AI.  That is it can be used in other companies’ applications.

Curious to learn about the first chatbot?    It dates back to 1960 and a chatbot named ELIZA.

AI

Nanosheet Technology and AI

“Over the last five decades, semiconductor technology has been the engine for computing hardware. And in the last ten years, FinFET architecture has gradually dominated the semiconductor market. This technology continues to scale with ever-demanding requirements in density, power, and performance, but not fast enough: innovations are still needed to meet the demand for faster, more powerful AI hardware.”

The (More) Modern RPG Language

What does “more” Modern RPG really mean?  For most, it means “how much free-format syntax is supported.”

A Tester’s Perspective on the IBM i

“So why was it that I had never heard of IBM i before starting here? Was it because IBM has changed its name several times? Maybe it was because it takes such a small staff to keep running, and they very rarely have problems. The ironic part is that even if you haven’t heard of or directly used IBM i, almost every person has interacted with the platform unknowingly.”

Leadership

Why Don’t You Have Enough Innovation?

Nearly every company’s strategy these days is to grow through innovation, yet many fall short. We all know the standard reasons: innovation is hard, innovation is uncertain or innovation grinds against the gears of the operating organization. They are all more or less true, but they are also simplistic, not really guiding executives on how to actually get more innovation.

While this article is directed at executives, it can also apply to IBM i Managers and RPG developers.  Are some of the reasons outlined in this article hurting innovation in your IT department?

Why Managers Should Publicize Their Failures

“If you want to get through to your employees, be ready to confess your failures.”

Here are some traits that great leaders have.

Modernization

IT Executives Discuss Application Modernization Strategies

“Modernizing aging applications by updating them with the latest features can not only bring new opportunities for an organization but can also create multiple roadblocks that can hold businesses back.”

Red Hat Customers Want Hybrid Cloud

“Businesses prefer the hybrid cloud strategy for many different reasons — but, overall, data security, cost benefits, and data integration led the pack” but there is one big problem.

There aren’t enough experienced and talented IT staffers to go around.

This is one of the challenges with modernization.  Organizations argue they have to move away from legacy systems because they can’t find the right skills.  Then they find out as they venture down the modernization path, we can’t find the right skills.

The solution: Focus on what is best for business and the customer.  While there is no question having the experience is important as you modernize.  Even more important, is to have a strategy in place as to how you will acquire and train your staff.

State of Ransomware in the United States

This report was originally scheduled to be published in January but in light of the recent Ransomware attack, it was released early. “In 2019, the U.S. was hit by an unprecedented and unrelenting barrage of ransomware attacks that impacted at least 948 government agencies, educational establishments and healthcare providers at a potential cost in excess of $7.5 billion.”
