Harley is using AI and Robots to prepare for Industry 4.0

Industry 4.0 is here. “Harley Davidson is one of those companies who has already begun to use artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics. Let’s look at a few ways Harley-Davidson is getting ready for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”

Fresche Solutions has new Chief Operating Officer

As “a leading provider of IBM i application modernization solutions” Fresche Solutions continues to invest big in the IBM i market.

Career

Leadership should share more love

Here is a short podcast from Wharton discussing, Fred Kofman’s book, The Meaning Revolution. Why are some leaders able to make a bigger difference than others? Is it because of love? Employees want more than perks at the office. They “want a sense of purpose, a feeling of true camaraderie, and a belief that they are having an impact within the company and outside of it.”

Artificial Intelligence expert is offered $6 million in pay

As this article points out, AI is in high demand. So much so that companies are willing to pay to attract the talent that will give them an edge. But what is most interesting about this is not the pay but rather how valuable one can be when they have an expertise that others don’t. I speak to many professionals in the IBM i community who are experts. One example would be RPG programmers who excel at developing web services.  They can ask for a higher rate of pay because they have a skill that is in high demand.

Looking to upgrade your RPG skills?  Make a move to RPG Free Form as well as start learning PHP or one of these other languages.

Data

DataWorks Summit for 2018

Here is a report on the DataWorks Summit 2018. “IBM is serious about playing an important role in today’s big data landscape.” There is also a short video with Pandit Prasad, IBM describing more about what IBM is doing around Big Data and how they are selling the overall solution.

89% of UK IT Leaders admit they that legacy applications need upgrading

It’s time to modernize your legacy applications. But it is not as easy as it looks because “original apps often hold valuable data that are still needed by the business for operational reasons – such as responding to customer inquiries – or for compliance or business intelligence.”  Should modernization start with the data?

Trends

What do fishing in Finland and IBM have in common?

“We all want to know more about the food we are eating, and for consumers in Finland who love their fish, it is now possible to trace their purchased fish fillet all the way back to the actual lake that the fish was caught”.  This is all possible with IBM Blockchain technology.

AI, you need to tell us more about how your algorithms work

“Businesses have never relied more heavily on machine learning algorithms to guide decision-making than they do right now.”  This article brings up some very interesting insight on AI and what you need to know about it.
