Sometimes it’s the little things that disqualify you from getting hired. Companies often request for candidates to fill out an job application prior to the interview. It is best practice to do as they ask because if you don’t it may be seen as a red flag. Failing to complete the application could put you out of the running. I have seen it happen.

It is a must to do your “homework” on the company you are interviewing with. It is surprising how many candidates don’t. Take an hour or so to browse the company website to get a clear understanding of what the company you will be interviewing with does, what they sell, who they sell to, what kind of services they offer, how long they have been around as well as how they are perceived in the marketplace. Use LinkedIn to research the individuals you will be interviewing with. The more you know about their background and where they have come from the easier it will be to build rapport and feel comfortable in the interview.

When you are interviewing don't assume they understand the technology you are using or what you do on a daily basis. They very well might understand the details of the technology you specialize in but they want to make sure you do. When discussing your background be specific and go into detail to show that you know what you are talking about. Use examples of your work, cite the technology that was used as well as explain how the project made an impact on the business.

It is logical to think that the interview starts when you greet the individual or individuals with whom you are meeting with but the reality is the interview starts when you walk in the door and sign in with the receptionist. It is important to be courteous and have a smile on your face. This does not always happen, but on occasion, the receptionist is asked for feedback on how candidates present themselves as they sign in and wait for their interview to begin.
ERP Implementations: Is the business behind it?
Implementing an ERP system is not an easy task. Just ask any organization that has gone through the process. We have all heard the horror stories of failed implementations and depending on who you talk to there are a number of people or reasons for the failure. It was the implementation partner, the vendor, the Project Manager, scope creep, the software etc.. While the vendor or implementation partner may have had a role to play in the failure it ultimately comes down to the leadership of the Project Manager and more importantly the backing and support of the business. There has to be buy in from Senior Leadership and key stakeholders. If there is not, it is likely the implementation will fail.
